My apologies, race fans, for the delay is posting a race-preview update for Chicagoland, and for the brief update I'm posting now. I'm on vacation out in San Diego and am finding my computer time severely limited.

I did manage to crunch Friday's practice and qualifying data, and I used the results of that analysis to produce updated rankings for tonight's race. Then I tweaked those rankings with the original Chicagoland rankings I posted earlier this week, and the general impressions I gleaned from the practice and qualifying telecasts on Friday.

As I mentioned in my race preview on Wednesday, I think there's above-average predictability for tonight's race, and I feel pretty good about this top four:

1. Jimmie Johnson
2. Jeff Gordon
3. Kasey Kahne
4. Kurt Busch

Johnson's wife delivered their baby, so the champ should be ready to roll tonight. He looked good yesterday, and he's my pick to win tonight.

Gordon is pretty close to Johnson, however, and he could easily win, too. And Kahne and Kurt Busch should show very well tonight as well.

If you're looking to lay some money down, make sure you shop around for the best lines. If you want to bet the 48 to win, I think 4.5-1 or so is probably breakeven over the long run. For my #4 pick, Kurt Busch, I think I'd want at least 8-1.

GripexSo he ends up missing pit road, the crew gets the jack stuck, spins it out, blows a tire, uhh what else? Dont think he or the team was on the ball tonight, i shoulda made that play...fml
GripexId like to take a matchup bet against johnson for tonight, i just heard an interview with him and apparenly he only had 6 hours of sleep total, over the last two nights. Sure hes fast in practice, but can he concentrate the whole race to stay outa trouble? the only matchups i see are denny hammy and kylebush, but their practice times are both really slow, so im not sure what to do, any ideas? anyone?
