Well folks, the 2012 season is finally here. We kick off the season with the annual Budweiser Shootout which is an exhibition race for those who finished in the top 25 in the driver standings last year as well as any Daytona International Speedway race winner who wasn't in the top 25 and who competed in at least one race in 2011. You can catch the race on TV on FOX starting at 8PM EST, with the green flag waving at 8:29pm. If you are no where near a TV then tune your Sirius radio to channel 90 to hear Dave Moody and the boys call the race.

The race will consist of 2 segments, a 25 lap and a 50 lap bout with a short 10 minute concession in between. Crews will be allowed to make changes to the car during this break. The total race length will be 187.5 miles.

The Budweiser Shootout starting line up for this evenings race is set by a completely random draw, the drivers pick their starting positions out of a Budweiser bottle, which was done last night and televised on Speed. Should be interesting to see how all the changes Nascar has made will effect the drafting pairs and the draft. I suspect it'll be like old school pack racing for the most part, and at the end I assume pairs will break off for the last 2 or 3 laps.
